Welcome to one of Rømø's most opulent homes from the 1700s
The Sea Captain's House is a well-preserved testament to a time of wealth and cultural exchange. This beautiful and distinctive homestead was built around 1748. For 200 years, it belonged to the same Rømø family and provided a backdrop for the ups and downs of their lives. When the building and its unique interior came under the care of the National Museum of Denmark, the next-to-last owner, Hansigne, continued living in parts of the house, as formally agreed with the last owners. After careful restoration, the homestead opened as a museum in 1951 under the name ‘Nationalmuseets Kommandørgård’ (The Sea Captain's House).
